Calf of Man & The Sound Mug
£10.00
This mug with artwork by Joe Mason depicts Common Seals on the Calf of Man.
The southern shore of the Calf of Man, encloses a small bay called The Puddle. The Calf of Man has a large colony of seals which live and breed on the rocky coastline. They spend hours sunning themselves on the rocks. Two species of seal can be seen: the grey seal and the common seal. Confusingly, it is the grey seal which is by far the most common.
Owned by Manx National Heritage, the Calf has been a bird observatory since 1959.
Around 33 species of birds breed on the island annually, including the Manx Shearwater, Kittiwake, Razorbill, Shag, Peregrine, Hen Harrier and Chough, plus thousands of migrating birds on route.
