Derek Winterbottom has published a number of historical books about the Isle of Man. This book concentrates on the Montagus, Earls of Salisbury and Kings of Mann 1301-1428.
Covering six generations, the Lords Montagu & Earls of Salisbury played a central part in the political and military events of their time. Two of them were also Kings of Mann and were responsible for building most of Castle Rushen at Castletown here on the Isle of Man.
This book tells the story of their very eventful lives against a colourful background of tournaments and jousting, as well as the battles, sieges, atrocities and intrigues that were part of everyday life in a period when England was almost continually at war with Scotland and France.
